amateurmusicians.net is an experiment in investigative web punditry, chronicling the culture shift in music practice and education in the age of the Internet.
Areas of investigation include traditional “off-line” musical activity, alongside new trends in digital culture, with special attention given to music as a lifestyle and leisure pursuit. The majority of posts are intended as mini-research digests, suggesting and summarizing present and future lines of inquiry, insight and synthesis.
Since all questions that bear on the nature of musical activity beg the deeper question of where we’d like to go, this project also represents an opportunity to ask foundational questions on this thing we call “music”. Or at least some of the things we call “music”. Past, present, and future.
Above all, the focus of amateurmusicians.net will be on the art of living and learning through music. It will be concerned with everything that music is for us.
